Lesson Plan

Forces: magnets and aeroplanes

Summary:
Students rotate through a series of magnet stations, then experiment with the forces on a paper aeroplane.
Science content (2016 curriculum):
Physics: Motion and Forces, Newton’s Laws, Gravity (K, 2, 6)
Curriculum connection (2005 science topic):
Physical Science: Force and Motion (grade 1)
Procedure:

Introduce the class of students to force: it is something that makes things move, or stop moving. Show an example.

Half the class explores the forces of magnets: lay out the magnet activities, and let them explore them.
The other half of the class experiments does the activity on aeroplanes with the forces in aeroplanes.
